Season Opener Concert | Evergreen Chamber Orchestra

  • First Universalist Church of Denver 4101 East Hampden Avenue Denver, CO, 80222 United States (map)

The Evergreen Chamber Orchestra (ECO) kicks off its new season with a program that promises to delight and inspire. The concert begins with Mozart’s effervescent Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Often referred to as “A Little Night Music,” this beloved work is a sparkling gem of classical music, filled with catchy melodies and playful rhythms. Next, experience the virtuosity of ECO’s principal violist, Trent Guerrero, as he takes center stage in Stamitz’s Concerto for Viola in D Major. This masterpiece from the lesser-known composer Carl Stamitz (1745-1801) showcases the viola in a dazzling spotlight, with its lyrical melodies and technical challenges. This concerto is a testament to Stamitz’s cheerful, clever, and virtuosic composition style. The heart of the program is Haydn’s monumental Symphony No. 104, often nicknamed “The London Symphony.” This masterpiece, and the last symphony of Haydn’s career, is a grand and exhilarating work beginning with a slow and mysterious introduction which breaks the tension by moving to a quick folk-like theme followed by unforgettable melodies in the Andante section and concluding with the lively Finale: Spiritoso. Haydn was a master of the symphony form, and this work is a shining example of his genius.
