Musica Femina, a look at women composers | Columbine Chorale

  • St. Paul Community of Faith 1600 Grant Street Denver, CO, 80203 United States (map)

The Columbine Chorale will present Musica Femina, a program of music by female composers, on March 15 & 16. There is a great wealth of choral literature written and/or arranged by women, as well as an ever-growing list of prominent and prolific female composers. This stylistically eclectic program will include pieces by contemporary composers such as Elaine Hagenberg, Sarah Quartel, Carol Barnett, and Susan Brumfield, as well as music from the 20th-century by Alice Parker, Emma Lou Diemer, and Elizabeth Poston. Featured works will also include a lovely German lied by Clara Schumann (widow of composer Robert Schumann), and a benediction by Amy Beach, who is widely regarded as America’s first successful female composer. Works by two Colorado composers, Loretta Notareschi and Moira Smiley will also be featured.
