“Close to You” – A Symphonic Celebration of Love | Aurora Symphony

  • South Middle School 12310 East Parkview Drive Aurora, CO, 80011 United States (map)

Experience a Valentine’s concert full of romance, love, passion, and jealousy! Appropriate for date nights or families with children of all ages.

The concert opens with the heart-pounding “Danse Bacchanale” from the opera Samson and Delila. The Los Angeles Philharmonic calls it an “orgiastic, percussion-driven dance,” and one music critic described it as “a full-on nightclub banger…[that] just happened to be written in 1877.”

Everybody loves Debussy’s gentle “Clair de Lune” (or “Moonlight”), performed by the full Aurora Symphony Orchestra in all its beauty. But this one was picked especially for Twilight fans 😉.

Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet is THE music you hear in movies and TV shows when the hero sees that special someone, “the one”,” full of soaring melodies of love and the drama of clashing swords and warring families.

Finally, vocalist Gabrielle Razafinjatovo joins the ASO to perform a collection of classical and popular songs, including “(They Long to Be) Close to You” by the Carpenters, “Moon River” by Henry Mancini, and “Dos Orguitas” from Disney’s Encanto. And three classical and romantic arias (songs from an opera) express pain, seduction, and innocent love.
