Karen Slack returns to FCM’s Chamber Series with the Colorado premiere of African Queens. This brilliantly curated program features music by both African and American composers, celebrating the history and legacy of seven African queens. The performance includes new art songs by acclaimed composers Jasmine Barnes, Damien Geter, Jessie Montgomery, Shawn Okpebholo, Dave Ragland, Carlos Simon, and Joel Thompson.
African Queens was commissioned by Friends of Chamber Music along with the Aspen Music Festival, Boston Symphony Orchestra for the Tanglewood Learning Institute, Ravinia Festival, Washington Performing Arts, and New York’s 92nd Street Y.
