AfroMexican Journey: Yanga, Slavery, and Freedom

  • Museo de las Americas 861 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

The profound impact of Africans enslaved and brought to Mexico remains largely overlooked. Presented by Latino Arts Project in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Denver, this exhibition celebrates Gaspar Yanga as the “First Liberator of the Americas” and invites audiences to uncover the resilience, creativity, and enduring legacy of AfroMexican culture. Through a variety of art mediums, explore the connection of Mexico’s untold history through a broader global narrative, encouraging reflection on the universal pursuit of freedom and identity.
